Joe Van Belleghem
Joe has over 26 years of development and finance experience in real estate development. He is passionate about and committed to deeply green, transformative projects that have a positive environmental, economic, and social impact. He has worked on many C40 Carbon Neutral Program projects, including Dockside Green in Victoria, Elephant & Castle in the United Kingdom, Barangaroo in Sydney, Australia and Victoria Harbour in Melbourne, Australia. In 2010, he joined LendLease, one of the world’s leading fully integrated property and infrastructure solutions providers. Previously, Joe led Windmill West, a sustainable development company based in Canada.
A LEED accredited professional and charted accountant, Joe received his Bachelor of Commerce degree with honors from the University of Manitoba. He currently serves on the Advisory Council for the United States Green Building Council (USGBC); previous professional affiliations include Province of British Columbia’s Climate Action Team, Advisory Board for the Pacific Institute for Climate Solutions, Director and Vice Chair of the Canada Green Building Council and Director and Treasurer for the United States Green Building Council.
His development accomplishments include:
- First LEED Gold building in Canada
- First two LEED Platinum residential buildings in the world (Calgary) followed by a LEED platinum residential project in Ottawa
- Set three LEED Platinum world records in residential, and core and shell office buildings at the Dockside Green project in Victoria
- The first stage two LEED platinum for neighborhood development designations
